Initial Thoughts + Welcome
Welcome to Pretty Busy from Brooklyn, New York. I started this blog in May 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic that forced many of us to view our daily lives and routines differently. I have always had a love for beauty and fashion, and in the words of my friend, “When will I ever have this kind of time again?” There is no time like the present to finally embark on that passion project you have held in the back of your brain, and finally, it’s my time to get this blog going.
My name is Alicia, and I have lived in Brooklyn since graduating from Syracuse University in 2012. I am a New York City public school educator, and my work is my passion and purpose. But it’s time to expand and grow into some other roots.
I graduated college with a degree in journalism, so writing has always been my most authentic form of self-expression. While I took a (very) different path, I am starting this blog as a creative outlet for myself, and as a way to help others. After years of being the “go-to” girl for all things beauty and style in my social circles, it was time I created a formal platform to create a virtual storage unit for all of my tips and tricks (especially since my closets + medicine cabinet are already stocked full of product). With the encouragement of friends, welcome to Pretty Busy Brooklyn.
I’m a self-proclaimed product junkie and shopping addict. I love the beach (shout-out to the Jersey shore!), a good book (romantic comedies, contemporary fiction, non-fiction), and living in Brooklyn (I have never lived in Manhattan and do not plan to). I’m currently finishing my second Master’s degree in the world of education, and I am most myself at work in my predominantly female environment surrounded by teenage girls.
The reality is, life isn’t slowing down any time soon. While we may be at home for the foreseeable future, life is always in full motion and things are busy. When we ask one another why we aren’t doing something we want to be, we say, “Well, I’m pretty busy.” Who isn’t? But taking time for yourself is critical in the journey of self-love, and developing those healthy habits and routines that prioritize self-care are often hard to start. Pretty Busy is here to set you up, keep you informed, and take some of the heavy lifting off of you so you can (finally) pencil in your beauty fix.
