The Weekly, 10.26.20

I am starting off this week on a high note, as Chris and I voted early on Saturday! If you haven’t made your voting plan and are a registered voter, then you better get your butt into action. We decided to vote early, as Chris will be a poll worker on Election Day, and we wanted to get it done with certainty before all of the madness ensues. I highly suggest you do so if you didn’t get an absentee ballot- you just need to find your polling location, as it likely differs from your regular voting location. You can find more your early voting location here.

I feel like we are about to enter my favorite weeks of Fall, when the weather (hopefully) changes to that beautifully scented crisp fall air, and the humidity finally leaves the air. So much beautiful Fall foliage happening, and it just makes me so grateful to live in beautiful Brooklyn. There’s something so special about living in New York City during the cooler months and as we move in the holiday season. I’m desperately clinging to that nostalgia to pull us through this next couple of weeks, as we prepare for another COVID lockdown season.

With so much going on in the world, I haven’t been able to read anything with real substance. So I am sticking to just fun reads, and have been on a little bit of a roll, as I usually cruise through these kinds of books quickly. I finished, You Had Me at Hola, which was as cheesy as the name suggests, but an enjoyable read nonetheless. Now I’ve moved on to, The Roommate, which is about, you guessed, a mid-twenties PhD graduate and socialite following her best friend and unrequited love across the country without a plan, until he ditches her to live with a random roommate who just happens to star in adult films. It’s pretty cute so far, but prepare for some NSFW reading.

After returning that coatigan to Mango that gave me major Yoda vibes, they had a stellar sale this weekend so I picked up a few things. I found this army-green padded shoulder sweater, which will be very cute paired with jeans and combat boots as we get into colder weather. I had posted about a quarter zip sweater, and I found a nearly identical option here. I also grabbed this classic white long-sleeve tee, because you can never go wrong with a white tee and jeans kind of look for any casual occasion.

I finally got to wear my green shacket I posted about a few weeks ago to brunch outside yesterday – it was the first time outdoor dining where we actually needed heat lamps on – and I am just really into this oversized shirt/jacket trend that is happening right now. I found this oversized shirt jacket at H&M and thought the blue/gray/black plaid was a nice alternative that would look cute with some black jeans. This one is unlined, so more like a boxier cut flannel than a true jacket

If you haven’t shopped at clean beauty retailer, Credo, yet, you are missing out! I really love their site, and they held their 20% friends and family sale last week, so I picked up a few things to try out. I put together a post on my picks for taking care of dry skin, especially during the colder months, and I have been on the hunt for a new daytime and nighttime moisturizer to add to my rotation. I often wait for sales like this to try out new skincare. I grabbed this Ursa Major Golden Hour Recovery Cream that had really great reviews from people who suffer from dry skin. I was also looking for a new daily face wash, and I picked up this bestseller from Indie Lee, a brand I’ve wanted to try with packaging I am very drawn to.

I have also been loving Ilia beauty – their mascara is by far my most used mascara, and has moved its way into first place in my mascara ranking, I think. I ordered another one of those, and then picked up this gorgeous rose gold liquid eye shadow. It looks like a super easy eyeshadow to wear during the day or at night, and I have loved everything I’ve tried from them so far.

It’s also the season for holiday gift sets to start arriving on the shelves, and this is a great time to get some great beauty deals. I think this set from Versed is a great budget-friendly buy, and looks very intriguing with the eye tool it includes. This set from Herbivore is another gorgeous set that includes two of their best-selling facial oils, and a jade roller, which is an easy to use beauty-tool with a zero intimidation factor for anyone you want to treat.

And in the best news, Sephora will be starting their annual pre-holiday sale starting this week. It starts at different dates depending on your rewards status, but it is the perfect time to load up on any essentials, or grab any beauty related gifts you might be getting for others. You can find my year-round, tried and true top ten beauty picks and skincare picks in this post, but I always love their holiday gift sets because they are fun, but also usually a great deal, which makes it perfect for trying things you’ve had your eye on. I love this set from Amika that includes two of favorite sprays and the roller brush that will give you a salon quality blow-out in a few minutes. And another favorite that I grabbed last year in the area of haircare is this set from Olaplex, which includes their best-selling products that will last you for a while.

I’ve got a few more top picks for you, which include this set from Fenty (this line does no wrong, and I have/love most of these products), this lip trio from cult-favorite Charlotte Tilbury, and this set from Farmacy which features three of my favorite products, including this new moisturizer I’ve been trying that is just a dream. And finally, I always grab the Summer Fridays holiday sets, and this year they include my favorite hydrating mask and lip balm, as well as their vitamin C serum, all for just $75. Do yourself a favor and stock up during this upcoming sale!

Preparing for a better week than last week (I hope…), and looking forward to celebrating my nephew’s third birthday next weekend with a small celebration at my sister’s house. I absolutely cannot believe that he is going to be three, but I love watching him grow up and the stage he is currently in. And if you’re looking for a great birthday/holiday gift for a toddler in that range, my sister put me on to these themed sensory bin gems! I can’t wait to see him open them.

Until then, stay pretty busy, and get out and vote! It’s the most important priority on your to-do list, and no excuse should get in the way of getting it done – the earlier the better!
