Dreamy Summer Dresses

I was sitting on the couch last week next to my mom, scrolling through clothing, when I saw this pretty pink babydoll dress. And all I thought was- I really wish I had someone to wear this!

It’s been a long couple of months in sweats, and as the weather gets warmer, and restrictions are easing in some places, I am dreaming of a gorgeous rooftop happy hour in the city with friends wearing a cute little dress.

Naturally, this took me down a rabbit hole, and now all I can think of is some sort of reason to justify buying some dresses for the summer when I have nowhere to go. So alas, here I am, sharing them with you. Because maybe you live somewhere (potentially even just an alternate reality) where you can wear one of these gorgeous summer dresses I found.

1. Orange v-neck taffeta dress, 2. Striped tie-waist dress, 3. Pink tie-back dress, 4. Green smocked mini-dress, 5. Striped smocked mini-dress, 6. Blue voluminous cotton dress

I love a good mini dress! Because I am only 5’2″, shorter hemlines are my friends. I like a dress that hits a couple of inches above my knee, so it elongates the legs. In the summer months, I’m usually in a dress, especially when I go to work. Pair them with sneakers or sandals, throw on a denim jacket, and you’ve got an easy outfit ready to throw on.

If you veer away from dresses because of the chub rub, don’t! Two things that can make a huge difference- Megababe anti-chafe stick and a pair of under shorts- a thin, satiny bike short that stays in place so your thighs don’t rub together as you sweat.

With short dresses, I love a vibrant color and a fun sleeve that you can take from work to the bars. I like these long sleeve options for cooler nights or for those absurd A/C temps inside the office…remember those?

If you haven’t gotten on the midi dress trend, then you are seriously missing out. I love a midi length dress that hits mid-calf pair with a white sneaker or a mule. And they can be great layers as the weather gets cooler in the fall, so they make wonderful transition pieces for your closet.

When a mini-dress is a bit too risque for work, check out these options for a more conservative length. Slip dresses are all over right now, and I love that you can knot up a graphic tee and create a slip skirt, pop on a leather jacket and booties as you get closer to the fall, or throw on heels for a more glamorous look.

And if you’re going to try this length, definitely try it in a t-shirt material like the last dress. This is the one dress I probably could justify buying right now, and wear comfortably and casually around the house this summer. I love how simple it is, but says I’m trying.

Hope you enjoyed this little bit of wishful thinking! I might just have to treat myself and find some excuse to wear something fancy just for fun. Today I threw on an oldie but goodie dress to go vote, because it’s hot and humid. If you live in New York, and didn’t get your absentee ballot like Chris and I, then get your butt out to the polls and do your civic duty. Be the change! And if a dress brings you joy while you do it, wear it!
