Fall hair chop featuring curtain bangs.

It was a quiet week on the blog last week. I have had a really busy start to the school year, with so many changes. I sat down to try and write last weekend, and the words just wouldn’t come out. So, sometimes, it’s important to just know when to take a break and give yourself some time back.

And while I am not totally myself – just having a very anxious weekend – I wanted to try and jump back into my blog routine. One of the biggest reasons I started this blog is because sharing what I love with all of you genuinely makes me feel good. When you’re looking for a way to calm those thoughts, focusing on a tasks that brings you joy really helps, I usually find.

No surprise here, we are back to working from home already, or at least for the next two weeks (although I don’t hold out any hope, truthfully). A lot of my recent purchases are ones that I knew that I could/would wear at home even if I wasn’t going into work every day. I’ve been very into layers and outwear, and was yearning for this beautiful camel sweater coat from J.Crew, but they never have my size in stock. In my search for a similar look- something in a camel color- I found this sweater coat from Mango, and snagged it on sale. It hasn’t come in yet, but I feel like it’s going to be a winner in terms of dressing up or down.

One of the biggest trends I am into for Fall is the shacket trend. Maybe you’re like, what the hell is that? It’s a structured button down shirt that is made of a thick enough material with enough length to serve as a jacket. There are some gorgeous, more expensive ones, as well as some very affordable versions at h&m. I wanted something neutral to start, and I found this army green option at ASOS that I ordered.

I’ve had such great luck at Madwell this season, and the same is true for jeans. I’ve found 3 pairs that I really love so far. This pair is the perfect vintage jean for Fall, without a super light wash. I got my regular size based on the reviews, but I definitely could have done my usual for Madwell and sized down. One of my secrets to buying regular length jeans as a shorter person is to find jeans with raw hems, which really isn’t that hard any more. I ordered this distressed black pair, and this classic medium wash high-rise jean with raw hems, and then cut about an inch off to better hit me at ankle length.

One of my growing wishlists is gold jewelry. I used to never really want for basic jewelry when I was younger, but it’s definitely something that I have grown into. I have found a few options from this brand on Amazon that are great options if you’re looking for something affordable that gives you a more luxe look. This pair of chunky gold hoops is particularly great, and they won’t weigh down your ears, either.

And speaking of Amazon finds, I have finally found the only no-show sock that doesn’t fall down into my shoes. People always tell me they have the sock for me when I complain about this, but they have never lived up to their promise. This pair does- they are perfect for wearing with sneakers and have yet to even come close to slipping- don’t look any further.

A few weeks ago I shared a post of my favorite mascaras, and I said that I didn’t necessarily have a favorite. However, I think I have settled on my favorite every day mascara- the Ilia limitless lash mascara is my go-to, and just does such a great job at both lengthening and curling my lashes. The biggest bonus is that is doesn’t leave any residue on my lid like so many other mascaras do when you really get them into the root of the lash. If you’re looking for a new mascara, start here.

When I went out to my sister’s house for the day to try on bridesmaids dresses for my brother’s wedding, I got hooked on two unexpected products thanks to her. The first is this soap- I had seen it, but never used it before, and wow, what a difference in cleanliness this soap gives. I feel like my hands are extra clean, if that’s a thing, and even my ring sparkles more when I use it. Maybe I am late to the game here, but this is a definite shift you need to make, especially right now. The other thing is this silly looking sponge called the Scrub Daddy. She gave me an extra of hers and it is a delight. It changes with the temperature of the water to become more firm or soft, and holds soap so well that you use much less.

I’ve got a big stack of Fall reading piling up, and I just got this new one in the mail – Ties that Tether. It looks like a great romance with depth – it’s the story of a Nigerian-Canadian woman who falls for a white man, leaving her with a choice about upholding a connection with her deceased father and their cultural traditions, or charting her own course in this relationship. Sign me up- I’ll be starting it tonight.

Per Kathleen Barnes’ recommendation, I got sucked into three seasons of the show, Yellowstone. It’s basically the Montana ranching version of Succession, featuring Kevin Costner and a political and land battle between everyone else and his ranching empire. Unfortunately, I had to purchase this in order to watch it on Prime video, but it was well worth the hours of entertainment as I finished out season 3. I haven’t been left on a cliffhanger this good since the O.C. season 3- if you know, you know.

I am going to close off this weekend with a hot bath and my four step-exfoliating facial. This changing weather has my skin so dry and flaky when I wake up in the morning, that it desperately needs some TLC and hydration. Gentle reminder to do something this week for you. Stay pretty busy, friends.
