I have been getting my hair colored since I was 17 years old. Full-foiled highlights, balayage, double and single process color, my hair has seen it all. So what beauty routine am I missing most right now? A visit to my hair stylist for a desperately needed color treatment.

Although I am naturally brunette, I get my hair colored every 6-8 weeks to keep it bright and cover the grays that grow in abundance around my hairline and top of my head. Did I realize how gray I already was? No, mostly because I have never been out of my hair color routine in over a decade.

Two years ago I double processed my hair to a platinum blonde. Great for a mood, terrible for the health of my hair. To prevent further damage, I only wash my hair twice a week. After working out every day, you eventually get a bit of build-up in your top roots.

Nothing covers those stubborn gray hairs and oily roots like a headband. They have become my new favorite accessory, especially as my hair grows longer and I want to keep it out of my face. Here are a couple of my current favorites, and a round-up of the ones I have purchased or am currently coveting.

No matter your pricepoint, there are great options for every budget. My velvet headbands come in a pack of three from Amazon for under $10 (great quality, too!), and the bow headwraps are also a steal at 12 for $24 with some neon wraps perfect for Spring.

I love the height of the pouf or crown headbands, as they elongate my face and really elevate any look. Part your hair in the center, or push it all back to create volume behind the band. Whatever your style, headbands are a great way to try seasonal trends (like tie-dye) without a hefty cost.
